Chris Pratt: natty or not?
Uncertain Actor known for Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Owen Grady in Jurassic World, and Andy Dwyer in NBC's Parks and Recreation.
Short answer. Verdict: uncertain. At the peak physique on this page, Chris Pratt is 6'2" (188 cm) and 192 lbs (87 kg) at roughly 11% body fat. That works out to an FFMI of 21.5, against the ~25 mark cited as the natural ceiling.
No official record settles this. What follows is opinion and analysis based on public numbers — how we judge.

Chris Pratt has swung his body weight up and down more times, and more publicly, than almost anyone else on this site. That much movement is exactly what a rate-of-gain method is built to test. The trouble with Pratt’s case is the numbers themselves: outlets recycle the same round figures across different roles, and two of them flatly disagree with each other about which transformation they describe.
A soft baseline, and a first jump that may not be real
Pratt started structured training at 32, around Moneyball (2011), where he dieted down for the role using running and calorie-cutting, with no trainer yet. No single source gives an exact weight or body-fat number for that point — this page estimates roughly 190 lb (86 kg) at 15% body fat, its own anchor for “leaner, not shredded,” not a sourced figure. That gap matters: without a real baseline, everything after it is a chain built on an estimate.
By 2012, for Zero Dark Thirty, coverage describes him getting noticeably more built, sometimes put at around 230 lb (104 kg). If that number and a conservative 12% body-fat estimate both hold, the lean-mass math looks like this: roughly 161 lb (73 kg) fat-free mass at the Moneyball baseline versus roughly 202 lb (92 kg) fat-free mass at Zero Dark Thirty — about 41 lb (18.5 kg) of lean tissue in about a year, at true training-year-one. The natural ceiling for a first year of lifting is 10–12 lb (4.5–5.5 kg), 15 lb only for a genetic phenom. Forty-one pounds is roughly three times that, which would be a serious flag — if the number is real.
It might not be. One outlet describes him shedding “a whopping 60lbs” to prepare for Zero Dark Thirty — the opposite direction, a cut rather than a bulk. That can’t be reconciled with a 190 lb Moneyball baseline; losing another 60 lb from there would put him underweight for his height. The more likely explanation is that the “60 lb” figure got recycled from a different transformation (the site elsewhere ties the same round number to Guardians of the Galaxy). Whatever the reason, it means the specific Zero Dark Thirty weight is not solid enough to hang a verdict on. The arithmetic above is shown honestly, but it rests on the softest data point on this page.
Parks and Recreation and Delivery Man: the one number that holds up
The best-sourced figure here is the heaviest one. Pratt has said directly: “I became really fat and got up to almost 300 pounds. I had real health issues that were affecting me in a major way.” He’s also described making a competition of it with the cast: “I announced it to the whole cast, and then it became a bit of a game: How fat can I get and how fast.” That lines up with reports that he also gained weight quickly for the 2013 film Delivery Man right after Zero Dark Thirty. This page charts the peak at 300 lb (136 kg) and an estimated 28% body fat — a straightforward caloric surplus, not a training-driven gain, and unremarkable as evidence either way. Some reports say the extra weight nearly cost him a role, underlining that this was an intentional, not incidental, gain.
Guardians of the Galaxy: a cut everyone cites, numbers that don’t add up
For Star-Lord, Pratt worked with a trainer and nutritionist on roughly 4,000 calories a day, mixing P90X, running, swimming, boxing, kickboxing, and triathlon training, reportedly drinking large amounts of water as part of the cut. This page charts the endpoint at about 192 lb (87 kg) at an estimated 10.5% body fat — the widely pictured on-screen Star-Lord build.
But press coverage of “how much he lost” doesn’t agree with that endpoint. HELLO! Magazine reports he “was around 300 pounds prior to the film and lost approximately 60 pounds in six months” — that arithmetic lands at about 240 lb (109 kg), not 192 lb. The two readings say different things: landing at 192 lb means he lost a large amount of lean tissue along with the fat, which is exactly what a natural body does under a six-month extreme cut — unremarkable. Landing at 240 lb would mean he kept almost all his muscle while stripping roughly 55 lb of fat, which is the harder trick to explain naturally. This page can’t resolve which reading is right, so it charts the lower, on-screen-consistent number and flags the conflict rather than picking a side.
Jurassic World and after: no signal
By 2015 he settled around 185 lb (84 kg) at an estimated 11% body fat, a build he’s largely held with roughly four workouts a week on a low-carb diet. Against the Guardians endpoint, that’s a small decline in estimated lean mass — normal maintenance, no flag.
Testing and incentive
Pratt works in film, not tested sport — there’s no doping program, no whereabouts requirement, no sample to fail. A leading role in two franchises gives him real career incentive to look a specific way on a deadline, and his public explanations (“hard work,” “the right food,” professional coaching) are the standard version every actor gives. That’s worth naming as a dodge — it explains nothing and rules out nothing.
Genetics concession
Even taking the most conservative reading available, Pratt’s Guardians of the Galaxy peak comes out to a normalized FFMI near 21.5 — solidly natural, unremarkable. The only number on this page that would be notable, the Zero Dark Thirty jump to a normalized FFMI in the mid-20s, sits on the weakest data here. Nothing on this page requires elite genetics to explain, but nothing rules it out either.
Verdict: uncertain
The one physique everyone remembers — Star-Lord — is ordinary by FFMI standards and reached through a cut that, on the most defensible reading, cost him plenty of muscle along with the fat. That’s a natural-looking result. The one number that would flag a problem, the Zero Dark Thirty lean-mass jump, depends on a weight figure that a second source directly contradicts.
What would flip this: a single, well-corroborated Zero Dark Thirty weight and leanness figure — from a contemporary interview or a trainer’s account, not a recycled headline number — would settle it. If it confirms something close to 230 lb at low body fat, that’s a year-one gain far past any natural ceiling and this page would move to likely-enhanced. If it comes in meaningfully lower, closer to a normal fitness upgrade, this page would move to likely-natty. Until then, the data doesn’t support either conclusion with confidence.
In their words
“I became really fat and got up to almost 300 pounds. I had real health issues that were affecting me in a major way.”
“I announced it to the whole cast, and then it became a bit of a game: How fat can I get and how fast.”
Common questions
Is Chris Pratt natty or on steroids?
This site rates Chris Pratt as uncertain. That is an opinion drawn from public numbers, not a statement of fact: the peak physique on this page works out to an FFMI of 21.5, against the ~25 mark cited as the natural ceiling.
Has Chris Pratt ever failed a drug test or admitted to using PEDs?
Nothing of the sort turned up in the sources on this page. Had it, the verdict would read confirmed instead of uncertain.
What is Chris Pratt's FFMI?
About 21.5. That comes from 6'2" (188 cm) and 192 lbs (87 kg) at roughly 11% body fat, normalized to 1.8 m. Drug-free lifters in the Kouri 1995 study topped out near 25.
