Yoel Romero is the internet’s favorite “no way” physique — shredded, dense, and seemingly ageless into his mid-40s — and his file contains one of the strangest records in anti-doping.

What’s on the record

In 2016 a USADA test returned ibutamoren, a growth-hormone secretagogue. Romero proved the source was a contaminated supplement: his sanction was cut to six months, and he then sued the manufacturer and won a $27 million jury verdict. That is a positive test AND a legal exoneration of intent — both facts, both on this page. Outside that episode he passed the USADA era’s testing, and his amateur pedigree ran through the tested Olympic system: a 1999 world title and 2000 Olympic silver for Cuba.

The math

The reason nobody believes him is the calendar. At 178 cm and 185-205 lbs across his MMA career, fight-week shredded, his FFMI reads run 26-plus — past the ceiling — and he carried that form to a Bellator title fight at 45. Maintenance of over-ceiling mass deep into the 40s is the improving-with-age pattern at its loudest. The counterweights are real too: a quarter-century of elite training from the Cuban wrestling machine, a genetic outlier by any nation’s standards, and body-fat reads on the densest frame in MMA carry the same error bars as Tyson’s.

Verdict

Uncertain. The one positive on record was legally established as contamination and this page honors that finding; the physique math and the calendar argue the other way; the tested pedigree argues back. No honest weighting collapses this into a clean answer, and Romero — who fought commissions, supplements makers and Father Time to a draw — has earned a page that admits it.
